Spc. Michael Frank passed away on May 10 after an explosive device hit the Humvee he was in. Two other soldiers were injured in the attack. Frank’s father, Dr. Timothy Frank, shared that his son was extremely proud of his service and the work he was doing overseas. Michael graduated from Stevens High School in Rapid City, S.D., where he was a track star and competed in the South Dakota Knowledge Bowl. After high school, he joined the Army and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati.
Michael worked in private investigation and restaurant management before rejoining the Army about a year prior to his death with the desire to serve his country in Iraq. He stayed with his father in Great Falls while his paperwork was processed. Michael’s family includes his mother, Diane Frank, a nurse practitioner in Portland, Ore., and his brother, Brian, a civilian computer specialist in Afghanistan. Services for Michael were planned in Cincinnati.
