Daren Allen Smith
Army PV2
From: Helena, Lewis and Clark County
Date of Death: 12/13/2007

Army Pvt. Smith was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Polk, Louisiana. He died of wounds sustained in a non-combat-related incident.
Daren graduated from Helena High School in June 2006. After graduation he attended one semester at the University of Montana-Helena College of Technology before enlisting in the military in March 2007. On November 29, 2007, he deployed to Iraq via Kuwait. He loved serving as a Cav Scout with the 10th Mountain Division because of his discipline and ability to pick up and move quickly.
Daren loved to play “get dirty” football and his Buffalo Bills. He loved his friends and all tunes with U2 and Rammstein, but he also was into the newest alternative music, gaming video and movie. His dream was to be a film producer and he hoped to further his education and travel, serve his tours and re-deploy stateside to attend college near Fort Drum, New York.
On Daren’s personal webpage the question was asked: “How do you want to die?” His answer — “with my head held high and remembered by everyone that I’ve touched.”
