The Bosnian War took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995. Force from the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Srpska (Serbia) and Herzeg-Bosnia (Croatia). Approximately 20000 U.S. troops participated in NATO’s first deployment, comprising one-third of the alliance forces. At its height, more than 32 countries would provide security for this region. In the short time of the Civil War, more than 100000 people perished. In 2004, NATO handed the responsibility over to the European Union Force, which is still in place to this day.
