U.S. Army Spc. Antonio C. Burnside, a member of the Blackfeet Nation of Montana, is a true hero who gave his life in service to his country. Motivated by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Burnside joined the military and served one tour of duty in Afghanistan. He re-enlisted in 2010 and returned to Afghanistan for a second tour.
Burnside’s dedication to his country and his fellow soldiers was unwavering. He spoke proudly to his mother about the brotherhood he felt as a soldier. Unfortunately, Burnside was killed in action by small arms fire on April 6th during his second tour in Afghanistan.
Despite the pain and grief of losing her son, Annie Burnside is grateful for the support of her family, the Blackfeet Nation, and others. She knows that no one can truly understand the pain of losing a child, but the outpouring of support has helped her through this difficult time.
Chairman T.J. Show will honor Antonio Burnside at a hearing before the House Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs with a moment of silence. Burnside’s sacrifice will never be forgotten, and his legacy will live on as an inspiration to others.
